Up ’til Dawn, Game On!

Alpha Delta Pi being recognized for writing the most letters at last year's Up 'til Dawn

This past Monday, November 7, was one of the most important days of the year at Chico State.  Students came together from all different organizations, fraternities, and sororities to help get donations for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Monday was the infamous event, Up ’til Dawn.

The theme was “Game On!” so students showed up not only in letters and Chico State attire, but football jerseys too. Frisbees, pizza, drinks, shirts, and much more were given out to students who participated. The theme made it clear we were all there for a purpose–  “Chico State vs. Childhood Cancer: Game On!”

Hundreds of students were addressing envelopes and filing out donation letters at tables with classmates, friends, brothers, and sisters. In between licking envelopes and getting to know our fellow CSUC students and Greeks, raffles were held and awesome prizes were given away. Prizes included an Aaron Rodgers autographed jersey, an iPad, and a semester’s tuition.

Balloons had Greek letters on them, distinguishing chapters from one another, and making the Greek system’s presence at the event impossible to ignore. As one student put it, “Wow, they’re everywhere!” referring to all of the surrounding Greeks present.

The Greek community is extremely involved in Up ’til Dawn and are driven by their passion for helping and giving back to the community. The group who had the most addressed letters last year was sorority Alpha Delta Pi. Alpha Delta Pi was especially recognized for their efforts and contribution on Monday night.

The Greeks’ enthusiasm didn’t go unnoticed and because of all their strong participation, this event was able to truly make a difference in St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the lives of those who need it most.
