Cinderella’s Closet 2012

By: Aubrey Weber

Panhellenic held their annual Cinderella’s Closet event this past weekend.

Dresses had been collected throughout the year; donations mainly coming from girls in Chico State’s sororities. The items at this event are free to those who are unable to afford a prom dress on their
own.

“At this event we provide not only prom dresses, but shoes and jewelry as well,” said Kailee Schroeder, vice president of philanthropy and community service for Panhellenic. “I know how memorable my prom experience was and I only hope that we are able to give those girls the same opportunities I had.”

With the help of the SCTA(Student California Teachers Association) Cinderella’s closet was advertised to the local area high schools bringing in nearly 100 girls to the event in the first hour. Along with volunteers from the SCTA, several members from each sorority’s chapters came to the event to assist in any way possible.

“I came to volunteer today because it is a great idea to help out those on this special
night [prom],” said Kirsten Spitzer, member of Sigma Kappa.

By the end of the event 80 dresses were taken home by girls who never thought that having a prom dress was possible. Panhellenic only hopes to repeat the success of this event in the years to come making dreams come true, one dress at a time.
